IRB research projects ongoing

  • Principal Investigator and Academic Mentor for Shelby Powers and Karen Kennamer for Influenza vaccination status of patients admitted to the Vidant Medical Center inpatient behavioral health unit. ECU IRB 19-001189. Study looks to examine infection rates, transmission, and prevention of Influenza, Covid 19 and other infectious diseases within locked Behavioral Health Units.  Ongoing since Fall 2019.
  • Academic Mentor for Schweitzer Fellow Joshua Park addressing the risk of opioid overdoses and the spread bloodborne infections caused by intravenous drug use by partnering with ekiM Syringe Exchange to extend the hours of the exchange and educating clients on abscess infection prevention and proper self-treatment techniques. The project will also partner with the Pitt County Health Department to organize periodic, onsite influenza and hepatitis A and B vaccination clinics during the Saturday exchange.  Start date: January 20, 2020
  • Principal Investigator for Medical and Psychosocial Impact of COVID-19/SARS-CoV-2. Study will evaluate both medical and psychiatric sequela of patients who have required care for Covid 19 infection and how best to provide integrated treatment. Start April 2020-ongoing. UMCIRB 20-001048
