Residency PGY-2

Overview

PGY-2 provides opportunities for increased experience and gradual independence in the care of acutely ill patients. Residents treat patients on inpatient psychiatry units, the hospital consult/liaison service, and in the emergency room. They begin to get their first exposure to the Outpatient Psychiatry Clinic as well. As residents solidify their diagnostic and assessment skills, they gain confidence in their role as physicians and psychiatrists.

The clinical rotations in PGY-2 are primarily based in Greenville at ECU Health Medical Center, with two blocks at the Fayetteville VA. Additionally, residents spend one block seeing and treating patients at Cherry Hospital, a nearby state psychiatric hospital. Residents enjoy the variety of patients they see and the ability to function as an integral member of a multidisciplinary mental health team.
