Diversity in the Residency Curriculum
ECU Psychiatry Residency Program Training on Diversity and Inclusion Issues
- All residents: GME Implicit Bias training
- PGY1 year: Didactic on Principles of Cultural Competence; ECU Safezone training addressing LGBTQ topics
- PGY2 Year: Didactic on Poverty, Privilege, and Professionalism; Didactic on Population Health and Social Determinants of Health
- PGY3 year: Didactic on Cultural Psychiatry
- PGY4 Year: opportunities to create electives in diversity and inclusion research, diversity and inclusion teaching or quality improvement projects to address gaps in diversity and inclusion or social determinants of health or health disparities
In addition to this formal coursework, our faculty discuss additional diversity topics, as they apply to other areas of psychiatric and behavioral functioning, throughout other courses and didactics in our curriculum.
Leadership opportunities for resident involvement in Diversity & Inclusion
- GME Diversity Committee – an ECU/BSOM resident committee that works on programming and activities for diversity and inclusion for all residents of ECU/ECU Health
- Residents also are eligible to join the ECU Health Sciences Gender and Sexual Identity Diversity Committee
